Faculty of the Built Environment (FoBE)
The Faculty of the Built Environment (FoBE) (formerly Building Technology and Architecture FBTA) started in September 2000 with support from the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR) grant, in collaboration with Ghent University.
It is a multidisciplinary faculty offering programmes and courses with an emphasis on environmental conscious design (ECD), a key goal of the faculty is to educate responsible professionals who can contribute to cultural and socio-economic development and change in East Africa and the global community through participation in design, construction and interpretation of built environments.

Faculty Vision
- The Vision of the Faculty of the Built Environment is to be at the cutting edge of built environment education and scholarship in sub–Saharan Africa, and graduate students of international calibre.
Faculty Objectives
- To advance knowledge in critical areas of architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, and environmental design;
- Maintain connections with practice and industry;
- To create and disseminate knowledge in various built environment disciplines, and to contribute knowledge to communities.
- To educate future leaders able to engage with the principles of sustainability (social, ecological and economic), critical and systems thinking in the development of solutions;
